Academic Courses for Students enrolled at the Graduate Institute

The GHP contributes to the academic teaching at the Graduate Institute through two courses:

Global Health Diplomacy and Governance taught by Prof. Ilona Kickbusch, Director of the GHP. This course can be complemented by the course Global Public Health. Students are advised to take both courses to develop sound knowledge on the connected global and public health issues;

Global Public Health: Current and Emerging Issues taught by Dr. Nick Drager, Senior Fellow at the GHP. This course has been also a mandatory course for the joint LLM on Global Health Law with Georgetown University.

Courses’ Abstracts:

Global Health Diplomacy and Governance: This course explores the changing nature of Health Diplomacy in view of the different power shifts occurring in a multi polar world. It analyses the interaction between foreign policy and public health and the ways in which countries, international organisations and other actors have adapted their responses. This course will not be taught during the 2011/2012 Academic Year.

Global Public Health: Current and Emerging Issues. This course is designed to give the non-health specialist a broad understanding of current and emerging issues in global health and global health diplomacy in today’s globalised world.  The course covers cross cutting issues such as globalisation and health; macroeconomics and health; international trade law and health. It explores among others major global public health policies and programmes related to infectious diseases including pandemics, HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria, and non-communicable diseases.
