Webinar: NCDs: Global challenges and opportunities
Wednesday, 7 December 2016
12:30-13:30 CET ONLINE
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of premature death globally. With their inclusion in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the recently announced UN Decade of Action on Nutrition, a window of opportunity for change is emerging. However, addressing NCDs also requires strong local health systems, access to effective and affordable treatment, intersectorial action, and responsible practices of private sector actors.
- How can the framing of NCDs foster political support for action?
- What are the challenges in translating global action to the local level?
- How can states and organisations manage the conflicts of interest linked to NCDs?
- What are the opportunities linked to the UN High-level Meeting on NCDs in 2018?
The Global Health Centre invites you to join a webinar discussion with Alessandro Demaio and Alena Matzke to explore the multi-faceted challenges of NCDs and the urgent actions needed to curb their economic and social impact.
|Alessandro Demaio is a Medical Officer for noncommunicable conditions and nutrition in the Department of Nutrition for Health and Development of the World Health Organization. Previously, he held research fellowships at Harvard Medical School and at University of Copenhagen.|
Alena Matzke has been the NCD Alliance’s advocacy lead in Geneva since 2012 coordinating the Alliance’s work with a range of international partners. She leads the NCD Alliance’s work on food and nutrition policy and advocacy.
