The Great European Disaster Movie

With A Riveder Le Stelle, RENA and Wake Up Europe!

Film screening and debate

The UK voted for Brexit, but what does the future reserve for the European Union? Beset by seven years of economic crisis and an increasing dissatisfaction with its undemocratic political structure, will Europe sleepwalk into catastrophe as it did one hundred years ago? Are we on the verge of a disaster or is this a great opportunity for much needed reform?

Directed by Annalisa Piras and executively produced by Bill Emmott, “The Great European Disaster Movie" is a fictional film which examines Europe's identity crisis and the complex challenges that are mounting against the Union’s survival. Subtle, moving, thought-provoking and witty, “The Great European Disaster Movie" frames Europe through the eyes of those who are most important to its success: Europeans themselves.

The film (2015, English, 87 minutes) will be followed by a debate with:

  • Bill Emmott, former Editor, The Economist
  • Stephanie Hofmann, Associate Professor, International Relations/Political Science, The Graduate Institute, Geneva

The event is organised jointly by the Graduate Institute, A Riveder Le Stelle, RENA and Wake Up Europe!
