Preparing Your Papers to be Published

1) If you are a student, please first ask your advisor to approve your paper for publication in our Working Paper series.

2) Each working paper must have the standard Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies cover page. Please first download this generic cover page.

3) Adapt the cover page to include your paper's information. Please contact the Web-editor to receive an appropriate paper number.

4) Create a pdf file of your paper (and cover page) with the name HEIDWPxx-yyyy.pdf, where xx is the number given to you and yyyy is the year of publication. (To create a pdf file, simply select print from your text editor and select the "pdf writer" from the list of printers. You will then be asked to save your document). If your paper is written in SWP, create the pdf file of the front-page and the paper separately and then merge the two pdf documents.

5) So that your working paper can then easily be found on the web, you will need to fillout the attached template which will also be published to the web, please download the template.

6) Then use wordpad or notepad to edit it (right-click on your mouse, choose "open with" and select one of the two programs). The template is already filled out with an example of how it should look. Change the entries to fit your information. Every entry should be written on one line, without using enter. This will seem awkward especially for the abstract, but helps search engines look for keywords.

7) Save the filled out template as HEIDWPxx-yyyy.rdf using quotation marks around the name so that it is NOT accidentally saved as a txt file (i.e. enter "HEIDWPxx-yyyy.rdf" when saving).

8) Send the paper in pdf format and the rdf file to the Web-editor by e-mail.
