I love Development Studies at the Graduate Institute because of the supportive staff and diversity of students, representing many cultural, academic and professional backgrounds. The course offers a unique inter-disciplinary approach to the subject matter, which in turn allows students to build on their strengths and areas of interest. And being in Geneva gives us access to many of the eminent experts in our fields of research who either work in or visit this most international of cities.

I love development studies at the Graduate Institute because not only is the programme very interesting but you also have great internships possibilities. But what I love above all is the mix of student cultures and nationalities that represents an amazing opportunity to share experiences and laughter with fabulous people from all around the world and from very diverse backgrounds. And let's be honest, amongst all the Graduate Institute students, MDev students are definitely the coolest!

What I like the most about the development studies program at the Graduate Institute is its critical perspective.  Professors are always reminding students about the paradigms and ideas within the development field, and how easy it is to assimilate into them when working in development.  In addition, many of my professors have worked in the field, which allows them to contrast the theoretical part of their lectures with real life.

I love development studies at the Graduate Institute because it attacks conventional wisdom and challenges me to think about many of the worlds' problems in ways I would not have been able to imagine before entering the MDev program.  I also like the program because it encourages students to pursue their own interests, and supports them in doing so.  But most of all I like the program because it brings together people from all over the world. I learn more chatting to my classmates over a beer than I ever could sifting through textbooks in the feted air of a library.

I love the Masters in Development Studies at the Graduate Institute because it is a preparation for my future career. As a student with a strange combination of nationalities – from Burundi and Norway - I have a desire to work in international development. The MDev approach at the Institute is multidisciplinary, allowing for a wide range of courses catering to the different needs and interests for future development workers such as myself.

Why are development studies at the Graduate Institute great? The variety of students, coming from all around the world and with different academic backgrounds, opens new horizons of thinking and knowledge. In addition, a real intellectual exchange between students and professors is possible in this programme. The varied academic and professional specialisations of our professors allow students to take advantage of their expertise. Moreover, the Institute gives you the tools to be active in proposing and implementing projects in the development field or the skills needed to succeed in the professional world. What more could you ask for in a programme?

What I like best about studying Development at the Graduate Institute is interacting with my classmates.  They challenge and inspire me and, while they represent a diverse crowd with a wide range of experiences, all are bound by a common commitment.  We are a brainstorming community motivated to understand the complex challenges of development and respond in ways that are innovative, insightful, and effectual.
