About the Ebook
World trade experienced a sudden, severe and synchronised collapse in late 2008. The drop was historically unprecedented in its size, its abruptness, and its global reach. This book, released just before the WTO Ministerial, is intended to tell the world’s trade ministers what the world’s economists know about the great trade collapse.

This book presents essays on:

The causes: 20 chapters – written by world-class researchers from across the globe – that analyse the causes of the collapse.

The consequences: Essays by Ann Krueger, Fred Bergsten, Peter Draper, and Jeffry Frieden discuss what the trade collapse means for the world trade system.

The prospects: The book considers the speed of recovery from previous trade collapses and projects the future path of trade.
