Security Institutions and Peace Operations
DE074 | Spring | 6ECTS
Conflict intensity around the globe is not uniform and hence not every peace operation looks (or should look) the same. This class provides an overview of the different global (UN), regional (e.g. EU, NATO and the AU) and subregional (e.g. ECOWAS and SADC) security institutions as well as their civilian missions and military operations. We will examine whether civilian and military crisis management tasks are easily distingsuishable from each other, and how these various international organisations cooperate with one another on the political level as well as on the ground.
