The Study of International Relations and Political Science I : Dynamics of Conflict and Cooperation
SP019 | Spring | 6ECTS This Political Science core course will familiarise students with foundational theoretical texts in International Relations relating to the topics of conflict and cooperation. After identifying the obstacles to interstate cooperation in an anarchic international system, the class will discuss whether, when, and how these obstacles can be overcome. The course will also examine the strategic choices and bargaining processes that can lead to international conflict. Specific topics to be covered include the formation of alliances, the causes and consequences of arms races, international crises, rivalry, and territorial disputes.
