Human Rights Obligations of Non-State Actors

This course will allow for an in-depth exploration of recent devlopments concerning the legal obligations of non-state actors in various legal orders. Starting with a doctrinal discussion of the subjects of international law and the issue of international personality, the course will go on to look at contemporary arguments concerning the responsibilities of international organisations, corporations, and rebel groups. Particular attention will be paid to the work of the UN Human Rights Council and the US case-law concerning the Alien Tort Statute.
