New Professors, 2009

 

The Graduate Institute is thrilled to inaugurate the new academic year and to welcome half-a-dozen new professors, including three women, who will deliver teaching on topics of key interest to the Institute.

 

Nicolas Berman

Enseignement: Doctoral Seminar: Econometrics I; Microeconomics I; Microeconomics II; Trade and Development

Nicolas Berman est professeur assistant d’économie internationale. Il a passé un an à l’Institut européen de Florence en tant que Max Weber fellow. Il a obtenu un doctorat en économie de l’Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne et a été chercheur au Centre de recherche en économie et statistique (CREST) et à la Banque de France à Paris. Il a aussi enseigné à l’Université Paris I et à Sciences Po Paris. Interview

 

Vincent Chetail

Enseignement: Droit de l’homme et conflits armés ; Droit international des réfugiés ; Droit international et consolidation de la paix

Vincent Chetail a obtenu un doctorat de l’Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas. Il est professeur adjoint de droit international. Il est également directeur de recherche de l’Académie de droit international humanitaire et de droits humains (Genève) ainsi que directeur de recherche en droit international au Programme for the Study of Global Migration. Vincent Chetail est également éditeur en chef du Refugee Survey Quarterly (Oxford University Press) et éditeur des collections « Organisation internationale et relations internationales » et « Axes » chez Bruylant (Bruxelles). Stephanie Hofmann

Teaching: European Foreign and Security Policy; International Organisation; International Relations and the European Union; Study of International Politics III; Foreign Policy Analysis

Stephanie C. Hofmann, PhD Cornell University, is Assistant Professor of Political Science. Prior to taking up her post at the Graduate Institute, Stephanie Hofmann was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute, Italy. She has published in several academic journals and is currently working on a book on transatlantic security relations and the creation of an auto-nomous European security institution. Her current research focuses on regime complexity and burden-sharing among international organisations. Interview and video

 

Annabelle Littoz-Monnet

Teaching: The Cultural Politics of European Integration ; Political and Ethical Issues in Historical Enquiry ; Research Workshop in International History and Politics

Between 2005 and 2009, Annabelle Littoz-Monnet has been Assistant Professor in European Studies at the Central European University, Budapest. She has also worked for the Socio-Legal Studies Center at Oxford University and as a Research fellow at the Royal Institute of International Relations, Brussels (2004-2005). Her research focuses on EU cultural policy, and more specifically on EU intervention in the audiovisual, copyright and policy sectors. Her more recent research interests also include European integration theory, European citizenship and constitutional patriotism, and the politics of European identity. Her book The European Union and Culture: between economic regulation and European cultural policy was published by Manchester University Press in April 2007. Interview and video

 

Elisabeth Prügl

Teaching: Feminist Theory; Gender Politics in Global Governance; Global Europe; Theories and Theorists in International Relations

Elisabeth Prügl is Professor of Political Science. She previously taught at Florida International University and she co-directed the Miami-Florida European Union Center of Excellence. Her research focuses on gender in International Relations articulated around global governance, women’s labour, the European Union and constructivism. She has written widely on gender and her articles have appeared in several feminist journals. She has authored and contributed to numerous books and serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals. Interview and video

 

Jorge Viñuales

Teaching: Climate Change in International Law ; Principes de droit international de l’environnement ; Principes de droit international public ; Sovereignty over Natural resources.

Jorge Vinuales has a PhD from Sciences Po, Paris and a LL.M from Harvard. A member of the faculty since 2009, he is an Assistant Professor in International Law. In September 2009, he was appointed the first Pictet Chair in International Environmental Law, a three-year position. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he is Counsel with the Geneva law firm Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler and the Executive Director of the Latin American Society of International Law. He specialises in environmental law, international investment law and arbitration. He has worked in the public and private sectors. He has written widely on his areas of legal interest and his articles have been published in several leading law journals. He is an alumnus of the HEI, Geneva. Interview and video
