Course Highlights

 

Programme Contents

Deliberations on health-related intellectual property instruments and mechanisms as well as the global response to emerging challenges will provide the real-life backdrop to discussions. The course will also discuss approaches to policy coherence at the regional and national levels. The course includes an overview of health and IP issues and is followed by sessions on topics such as:
 

  • Current and emerging issues in intellectual property and global public health
  • TRIPS and the Doha Declaration
  • Alternative mechanisms for incentivizing the development of treatments for diseases that predominantly affect developing countries 
  • The problem of counterfeiting
  • Industry perspectives on IP and global public health
  • Technology transfer and open access to knowledge

 

Faculty

Core faculty will include Professor Nick Drager of the Graduate Institute and Professor Carl Coleman of Seton Hall Law School. Guest faculty will include other academics, regulators, and representatives of international organizations, the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and NGOs.
