Three teaching Phases
  • Introduction to concepts, theories and methods
  • Initiation to a multi-disciplinary approach to development
  • Introduction to analysis of a specific issue
  • Methodological preparation for carrying out field research during phase 2.
Teachers come from the Institute and partner countries.
The distance learning week enables participants to do some preparatory reading between May/June (admission) and the beginning of phase 1.
  • Field study, laying the foundations for an analysis / diagnosis of a specific socio-economic situation
Tutors monitor participants via email.

 
  • Consolidation of knowledge / greater detail on a theme
  • Drafting thesis and oral presentation
  • Drawing on experiences
  • Exchanges between continents
  • Knowledge of Swiss context
  • Visits / meetings
Teaching and supervision by the staff of the Institute, with occasional visits from colleagues from partner countries. The distance learning week enables 2 out of 10 modules to be organised partially at a  distance.
Four locations
  • Africa: Bamako (Mali)
  • Latin America: Lima (Peru)
  • Asia: Hanoi (Vietnam)
  Participants from the North choose one of the 3 locations to attend phase 1.

  • Institut supérieur de technologies appliquées (ISTA), Bamako, Mali
  • Centro de Estudios y Promoción del Desarrollo (DESCO), Lima, Peru
  • The Asian Institute of Technology in Vietnam (AITVN), Hanoi, Vietnam
Monitoring of participants on the ground by staff of the Institute and/or teachers from the South. The three institutions attend the annual seminar held in Geneva each May.
