PhD in International Studies

The Ph.D. in International Studies is a four-year programme offering a high-level specialisation in one of the following disciplines:

The Ph.D. curriculum involves a set of research seminars and compulsory courses before writing and defence of a dissertation. This programme is a challenging degree tailored for exceptional Master students with a strong commitment in the field of international studies and a proven ability for inquisitive and independent work.

Specific admission conditions

1. Institute students

For DES/DEA/MIS students wishing to register for the Ph.D. in International Studies.

In order to be potentially eligible, candidates must:

Provide a provisional title for the thesis, a brief statement and two letters of recommendation (one of which must be from the dissertation's director and the other from a faculty member of the Institute) to the Ph.D. Programme Secretariat (2nd floor, 16 Voie Creuse) by 15 January 2010 at the latest.

Only complete files will be taken into consideration.

 

2. External students

Candidates from outside the Institute must satisfy the latter’s general admission conditions.

 

To be taken into consideration for the Ph.D. programme, they must:

 

  • hold a DEA or a Master’s degree in one of the Institute’s disciplines (or in a related discipline);
  • attach to the application file a research dissertation equivalent, insofar as possible, to that of the Institute’s DEA or MIS, if they have written such a document.

The deadline for submitting the application file is 15 January 2010. The provisional title of the thesis must be mentioned in the application file.

The decision to admit a student is taken by the unit concerned and is based on the application file, on the academic results as a whole and on the letters of recommendation.
