The Shifting Geopolitics of the Multilateral System: Actors, Strategies, Policies

Geneva, 2 - 20 May 2011

For the sixth consecutive year, the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) are pleased to organise their annual three-week executive course on multilateralism. The course will take place in Geneva from 2 to 20 May 2011.

The course is organised with the support of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and welcomes each year the new cohort of Swiss diplomats, as well as junior diplomats already or soon to be posted in a multilateral setting. Participants may also include other government or international officials with a strong interest in multilateral issues.

Applications are now open and are accepted on a rolling basis. The deadline is 1 April 2011. Applicants should be nominated by their ministries or organisations. Candidates can apply for one or more modules. Participants are encouraged to apply to all three modules in order to gain comprehensive knowledge and skills to operate in a multilateral setting.

The course includes the following three one-week modules:

Module 1: Peace and Security: Taking Stock of Current Multilateral Practices

Module 2: Human Security: Challenges to Inter-State Diplomacy

Module 3: Economy and Development: Towards New Governance Schemes?

The course will include both analytical and practical sessions, interactive roundtable discussions, customised role play simulations and study visits to Geneva-based international organisations. Participants will be interacting with a multiplicity of actors, namely representatives of States and international organisations, managers of NGOs and members of the private sector.

More information will be regularly posted here.
