Training Government Officials in the Maghreb

The project is sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

A pilot course entitled “Formation régionale diplomatique au Maghreb” for young government officials from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, took place in Rabat, Morocco, in April 2008.

Objectives

  • To train young government officials from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia;
  • To strengthen regional relations in North Africa by establishing relations between young government officials from the three participating countries;
  • To strengthen the governance of Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia for effective representation at the international level.

In order to train young officials with a potential for high ranking positions in their country’s government, the training course includes practical modules, such as the simulation of negotiation techniques, as well as more theoretical modules, e.g. on the economic cooperation in the region (please see the course programme for more detailed information). These modules, which are all focused on the regional perspective, are taught by international and local experts. In addition to the teaching modules, the program includes cultural and group activities, aiming at increasing the interpersonal skills of the participants as well as their knowledge of the host country.
