Matthias Rieger is a doctoral candidate in Economics at the Graduate Institute, Geneva under the direction of Jean-Louis Arcand and Richard Baldwin. He received his Master’s degree in Economics from the Graduate Institute and holds an Undergraduate degree in Economics and Social Sciences from the Free University of Bolzano, Italy. In the framework of his doctoral research, Matthias works on the microeconomics of development, particularly in fragile states, with a focus on impact evaluations of social programmes. He is also a consultant to the World Bank's Development Impact Evaluation Initiative for the evaluation of a Community-Driven Development program in the Central African Republic, performance-based contracting across HIV/AIDS test centers in Burundi, and a poverty alleviation project in Cambodia.
Prior to joining CCDP, Matthias worked for the Graduate Institute's Center for Trade and Economic Integration and the Programme for the Study of Global Migration, as well as the International Labour Organization, the German Institute for Economic Research Berlin (DIW), Egon Zehnder International, and the Social Science Research Center in Berlin (WZB).
