Religion, Secularism and Humanitarianism: Exploring Differences, Boundaries and Connections

Researcher:

Michael Barnett

This research project began under the collaboration of Research Fellow Michael Barnett, in collaboration with Janice Gross Stein (University of Toronto), the Humanitarian Forum and the International Council of Voluntary Agencies. The project is funded by a grant from the New York‐based Luce Foundation.
In October 2009, the CCDP convened an international conference gathering experts from humanitarian, non-governmental and academic circles, with the aim of discussing a series of memos that are destined to be assembled in a forthcoming edited volume. The proceedings of the conference were subsequently synthesised in a CCDP report entitled "Religion and Humanitarianism: Floating Boundaries in a Globalizing World", available here.

The CCDP hosted a second international conference from July 3-5, 2010 at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. A report of the conference will soon be made available.
