Transforming Conflicts with Religious Dimensions: Methodologies and Practical Experiences

Details: This report summarizes the proceedings of a conference organized in Zurich in April 2009 in the framework of the "Religion and Politics: Initiatives and Applied Research" programme co-directed by the CCDP in Geneva and the FDFA-PD IV in Bern. The report provides a thorough presentation of the conference, the papers presented by the participants, and an example of the dialogue carried out by two participants. It offers a detailed analysis of the participants' conceptualization of religion and conflict and the impact that it can have on the approach to conflict resolution.

Religion and Humanitarianism: Floating Boundaries in a Globalized World

Details: In October 2009, the CCDP convened an international conference gathering experts from humanitarian, non-governmental and academic circles, in the framework of the "Religion, Secularism, and Humanitarianism: Exploring Differences, Boundaries, and Connections" project led by research fellow Michael Barnett. The aim of the conference was to discuss a series of memos that are destined to be assembled in a forthcoming edited volume. The proceedings were subsequently synthesised in a CCDP report entitled "Religion and Humanitarianism: Floating Boundaries in a Globalizing World".

3C Conference Report

Details: In early 2009, the Swiss Government convened a high‐level “3C Conference” in Geneva. Co‐convened with the UN, OECD, NATO and the World Bank, the objectives of the conference were to facilitate dialogue across different policy communities in an effort to build on international commitments to promote a more coherent, coordinated and complementary approach in fragile and conflict‐affected states. As a concrete step forward, the organisers sought to develop a “3C Roadmap” for consolidating whole‐of‐government and whole-of‐system initiatives and generating an impetus for their implementation. The CCDP was mandated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Co‐operation (SDC) to provide conceptual support to the initiative, and write and publish a report.
