Research MissionThe Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP) engages in innovative research into the connections between security and development in fragile states, or into situations of violence and insecurity. The research programme focuses on the factors and actors that are implicated in the production and reproduction of violence within and between societies and states, as well as on efforts at the international, state, and local levels to reduce violence and insecurity and enhance development and peacebuilding. It concentrates on the human, social, economic, and development costs associated with violence and insecurity, as well as on integrated interventions and responses of the international community.
This overarching problematique is reflected in four concrete research streams, each of which is divided into a number of projects. These streams currently cover:
The projects of the CCDP follow a variety of methodological approaches governed by conceptual rigour, as well as an emphasis on interdisciplinarity. The work consciously departs from a purely problem-solving and policy-oriented approach in order to deliver focused, precise and substantively new outputs and contributions to academic and expert debates.
The CCDP participates in and supports a variety of outreach initiatives, including training modules, lectures and briefings, publications and other activities designed to disseminate the fruits of its research projects to relevant stakeholders beyond the academic community. It also facilitates knowledge transfer through traditional and non-traditional means that provide opportunities for productive interactions between researchers, policy-makers and experts.
