Who Are We?

History

The Library of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies is a specialised library in the field of international relations and development, created in 2008 from the merger of the libraries of the Graduate Institute of International Studies (HEI) established in 1927 and the Graduate Institute of Development Studies (IUED) established in 1961.

The Library’s valuable collections reflect the disciplines taught and the research subjects at the Graduate Institute. Located close to Geneva’s international organisations, it is open to all those interested in the field of international relations and development.

Horizon 2013

In 2013, the Library will become part of the “Maison de la paix”, a new and ambitious architectural project. In a totally renewed approach, its objective will be to accomplish its three different missions in the best possible manner:

  • to offer comfortable, calm and pleasant living and study surroundings, favouring both exchange and concentration
  • to enrich, to preserve, to organise and to give access to documents in all forms necessary for teaching and research in the Graduate Institute’s domains
  • to ensure that students are made aware of and learn different resources by offering them patron training, thus allowing them to become proficient as well as efficient in their research.
