Practical Information

Please also check our FAQ for additional information!

Funding

The scholarship is funded by the Swiss Federal Department for Foreign Affairs; it will cover expenses for travel, accommodation and meals, and offer a small stipend to cover other costs.

Housing

Participants from southern universities will be provided accommodation and receive a contribution towards their living expenses. The accomodation will be announced at a later stage.

Health

Health insurance is not compulsory for a short stay in Mexico. However, we strongly advise Global South Workshop participants to register with a private "short-term Study Abroad" insurance in their home country.

Visas

Depending your your nationality you may need a visa to enter Mexico. Tourists and business visitors can stay in Mexico for up to 180 days. It is advised to contact the Mexican Embassy in your respective
home countries for more detailed information. List of Mexican embassies in the world: http://www.sre.gob.mx/index.php/representaciones/embajadas-de-mexico-en-el-exterior

Please ensure that you have a valid passport. Visa fees for successful candidates will be reimbursed by the Institute upon presentation of original receipts.

Weather

Because of its location on a high plateau and its high elevation (over 7000 feet) Mexico City enjoys mild, pleasant weather nearly all year.  October through May is the city's dry season, this period having very little rain. Its winters, while cooler than the summers, are very mild.

Updated weather information for Mexico City, including short-term weather forecasts, can be located online through the Weather Channel (http://www.weather.com/weather/today/Mexico+City+Mexico+MXDF0132)

Additional climate information for the area is also available online at http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g150800-s208/Mexico-City:Mexico:Weather.And.When.To.Go.html

Facilities

Workshop participants are encouraged to make full use of El Colegio de Mexico's facilities, i.e., library and IT computer room.
