The United Nations and Violence against Women

Jacqui True
Monash University, author of The Political Economy of Violence Against Women, forthcoming (August), New York: Oxford University Press.

Venue: Room S1, villa Barton, 132 rue de Lausanne, 1202 Genève

UN security interventions to protect against mass sexual violence in armed conflict fail to conceptualize this violence as part of the continuum of gender-based violence that transgresses familiar soldier-civilian, male-female, state-non-state perpetrator, war-peace boundaries and thrives under conditions of globalized conflict significantly hampering any security and humanitarian efforts. The seminar draws implications from political economy analysis for international peace operations that seek not only to protect against and prosecute perpetrators of violence against women but to prevent it in the long run.

Please register before 18 June.
