Biography:

David Black is Director of the Centre for Foreign Policy Studies and Professor of Political Science and International Development Studies (IDS) at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. He was previously founding Chair of the Department of IDS at Dalhousie, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Ottawa.

Black’s research has focused on Canada’s role in Sub-Saharan Africa, including development assistance, human security, multilateral diplomacy, and extractive industry investment; post-apartheid South Africa’s role in Africa; human rights in the foreign policies of South Africa and Canada; and Sport and World Politics, with an emphasis on the political economy of major sporting events. He has edited, authored, and co-authored numerous publications in these areas. He has served as President of the International Studies Association’s Canadian section, on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development, and on the Executive Council and as Co-Director of the Canadian Consortium on Human Security.
