Roundtable - Emerging Asian Regionalism: A Perspective from the Asian Development Bank

Jong-Wha Lee

Head, Office of Regional Economic Integration, Asian Development Bank (ADB)
Jürg Schneider, Senior Advisor, Division for Multilateral Cooperation, State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Bern
Pascal Raess, Desk Officer, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Bern
Jean-Luc Maurer, Professor, Development Studies

The round-table will take as its starting point a study on Asian Regionalism recently published by the Asian Development Bank. As Asia grows, its economies are increasingly vital to each other—and to the world. What does this entail for Asian governments and the architecture of regional integration? The key message of the study is that, in an increasingly globalized world, Asian regionalism means a partnership for regionally and globally shared prosperity, and requires Asian governments to work together more closely to sustain economic development, grasp common opportunities, and manage shared risks and problems
