The Graduate Institute is a bilingual English-French institution; students are therefore required to demonstrate their knowledge of these languages by including the relevant certificates with their application forms.
Please note that all our compulsory classes can be followed in English.
English
Candidates are required to demonstrate an excellent command of the language, both written and spoken, confirmed by a language certificate: see details.
Candidates of English mother-tongue and those who have completed secondary or post-secondary education in English, confirmed by a diploma, are exempt from this requirement. Candidates who have studied at university level, full time and for a minimum of one year, verified by a transcript, are also exempt from this requirement.
French
Students are requested to have a passive knowledge of the French language (oral and written comprehension).
Students with no prior knowledge of French are eligible to apply, but are expected to acquire the level demanded, by the end of the first year of studies. They are required to attend a 3 week intensive French course which will take place prior to the beginning of the academic year. Registration for the intensive French course is carried out through the online application form, before 15 January (see below).
A French test will be organised at the beginning of each academic year to evaluate students’ levels of French.
Applicants are required to complete the online application form and submit all the supporting documents by regular post. The summary list provides details of the documents required and should be printed and attached to your application. Documents sent by email will not be accepted.
