Programme for the Study of Global Migration

Located in Geneva, the world capital of global migration, the Programme for the Study of Global Migration (PSGM) offers a unique interface between academia and the international community. The PSGM conducts advanced research, policy-relevant expertise and training on the multifaceted causes and consequences of global migration.

This paper is a result of the PSGM research project on "Stranded Migrants and the Challenges of International Protection”.

NEW research project

The PSGM and the CCDP have been commissioned by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs to do a research on the needs and concerns of the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora in Switzerland.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Open Society Foundation has awarded the Global Detention Project a two-year grant to develop data on immigration detention regimes around the world, with a special focus on improving information about practices in the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.
Alessandro Monsutti and his team were awarded funding by the Swiss National Science Foundation for a new research project entitled “Cohabitation, connivences et antagonismes en situation de ‘nouvelles’ mixités urbaines”. More info
The Swiss National Science Foundation has awarded funding to a research project headed by Vincent Chetail entitled “Statelessness in international law: which regime(s) for which right(s) ?”. Starting in 2012, the project will be hosted by the PSGM. More info

Events

Student Award

The PSGM has launched a student award to promote innovative and high-quality research on global migration. It is delivered each year on a competitive basis for rewarding an outstanding master thesis of the Graduate Institute.
